5 clutter free challenges to try this month

Living with less needn’t be difficult, especially if you’re the competitive type or enjoy a good game. There are many clutter free challenges out there to try out and help you get started with living with less.  From spending less challenges, digital minimalism challenges to decluttering challenges.  Here are 5 to choose from and try out this month.  Give it a go, it might just make starting to live with less a little more fun.


Spend nothing challenge.

This is exactly what it says and removes all unnecessary spending.  You could do this with everything (apart from food, unless you grow everything you eat?) or for one area of your spending.  Have a trainer buying habit? Then don’t buy trainers for a year.  You can define the length of time and what not to buy.


One in, one out.

Only start this when you’ve decluttered your home.  Then if you need to buy anything, you must get rid of something else.  It helps to stop accumulating items again.


Wardrobe hanger method.

This is a great way to identify what you wear and what you don’t.

Turn all the hangers in your wardrobe around the wrong way, so they’re annoying to take out of the wardrobe. After you’ve worn an item put it back with the hanger the right way.  After 6 months take out all the items where the hangers are the wrong way and donate them.  You haven’t worn them, so you don’t need them! You can do this for 12 months instead, to catch all seasons.


Be more with less’s “Project 333”.

A minimalist fashion challenge.  Wear only 33 items or less for 3 months.  This can save you a ton of time when deciding what to wear each day and reduces the clutter in your bedroom.  A double win.


The Minimalists “30-day Minimalism game”.

This is a great one to really help purge what you have. Find a friend or family member to get rid of things with. On day one you get rid of one thing, on day two, two things, day three, three things and so on.  It starts off easy but gets tougher.  You can do this alone too.  When you make it to the end of the month you can treat yourself to that relaxing spa day or a meal out or another experience. Come day 30 you will have decluttered 465 items – phew!
